Garnet is a beautiful portrait image in a lively, vibrant colour scheme. The art nouveau-styled background works well with the character, who represents a gemstone.
The anatomy of the character is very good, down to the skin creases of her delicate hands. Her pose leaves the viewer in doubt whether she is floating or in movement - what would be trouble for other representations works well here, in the ethereal art nouveau environment. One minor detail that might need changing is the right side breast, looking as though the fabric is tucked under it.
The graphic background is flawlessly executed and has nicely intergrated textures. One could wish for even more detail in the framing, and a more painterly apparel instead of the clean look of the smokey texture. This is a little bright in the lower left corner, taking the focus off the face. The concentric circles pick up the roundness of her hip, and are echoed in the dress patterns, fusing both the character and the background into unity. Very nice.
The skin is well coloured and shaded, although some more colour variation would have been nice; for example, an additional lightsource of cooler colour. This goes for the entire picture: I love the vibrant colours, but a wee bit more variation might have spiced up the image even further. The shinyness of her skin goes well with the hot colours though, making it seem a little moist.
The character is nicely lit with the reflected, bright red light. The dress, timelessly elegant, has rather soft edges on the lighter, right side; these could have been sharper, pushing her off side more into the background and therefore, out of focus. The distribution of detail is very good, letting the viewer focus on the character's face and arms.
Garnet is a beautiful painting, and will surely look quite impressive among the other pictures of MagicnaAnavi's birthstone series.
